The MLS unveiled their 2017 All-Stars that will take on Real Madrid on Aug. 3 at Soldier Field. Chicago Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic will be at the helm, leading 24 of the league’s best against Los Blancos.
For the LA Galaxy, Giovani dos Santos and Jelle Van Damme have been selected to their second consecutive All-Star appearance. Although Los Angeles has not met expectations during the 2017 MLS seasson, the two standout players are well-known throughout the league as bonafide stars. The full 23-man roster was revealed by MLS:

Dos Santos has notched six goals and an assist while Van Damme has one goal and an assist to his name. Dos Santos’ numbers are well off last season when he made the MLS All Star Fan XI in 2016. The Mexican international had seven goals and five assists prior to his nomination. Van Damme was added to the team after two All-Stars withdrew due to injury.
Both players started against Arsenal at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, CA last season as the MLS All-Stars were defeated 2-1. Dos Santos provided the assist to Didier Drogba to equalize the match after the league’s best went down early in the match. Van Damme and dos Santos logged in 45 solid minutes against the Gunners.
Dos Santos is back with the team after returning from the Confederations Cup and scoring two goals against Manchester United. He will hope to keep that scoring mentality going for the rest of the season to help the Galaxy make a playoff run. Van Damme continues to be the defensive pillar at the back but will need to get his teammates on the same page to tighten up the defense.
Romain Alessandrini was arguably snubbed from this season’s All-Star team as he has been a pleasant surprise for the Galaxy. His team-leading eight goals and seven assists have gone unnoticed by the league. He currently is the fourth-best player in the league according to the MLS Audi Player Index with 531 points.
