The LA Galaxy’s 2017 MLS campaign got off to a less than stellar start with a string of inconsistent performances on the pitch. What looked to be a lost season for Los Angeles, a four-game road trip resurrected head coach Curt Onalfo’s club after a 3-0-1 record away from StubHub Center.
Romain Alessandrini has been the catalyst for the five-time MLS Cup champions with his eight goals and seven assists for the season. However, he has been more lethal on the road, scoring six goals and dishing out four assists away from the confines of Carson, CA.
The Frenchman is the main reason for the Galaxy’s league-best 5-2-1 road record and wants the club to bring that same mindset to home games according to Adam Serrano of LA Galaxy:
“On the road, we have a different mentality. We play very smart and everyone fights for each other. It’s a good thing for us because everyone can play and everyone gives everything. We have to make sure that we can play like that at home,” Alessandrini told LA Galaxy Insider. “The most important thing is getting results at home. Before, we took three points every time at home, and now we do that away. It’s strange, but we have to do the same thing at home.
“Maybe at home, we have a lot of pressure because we play in front of the great fans at StubHub Center, but away we are a little bit free. We know that we can play like that away and we need to play like that at home and if we do, we can get a lot of points at home.”
The Galaxy have endured a number of injuries to their first-team but have bounced back tremendously, notching another road win against the Colorado Rapids. The team’s roster depth has stepped up and have produced when called upon.
If they can bring that same mentality at home, this Galaxy team will be a force to be reckoned with once they get healthy. Los Angeles will host Western Conference leaders Sporting Kansas City, but they are in the midst of an eight-game unbeaten streak and are five points away from the leaders.
